There comes a time.
There comes a time in every homeschoolers life that you have to put aside searching for the best curriculum and trying to figure out what your doing wrong and just do it.
Just start teaching with the materials you have. If you have any kind of creative spark go ahead veer from the beaten path. You can teach the basic through almost anything your child has an interest in.
Is you child the kind of child that if they think they are having school they shut down their learning mechanisms. However they are always ready to play. Use more games. Have your child create a game. My daughter and I created a bingo game of Latin root words and their english meaning. We created a bingo game of prepositions when learning grammar. We play all sorts of math games.
One thing many children like to do is help other children learn. If you tell them you need their help creating a game for other children to learn you will be amazed at the ideas your child has and learns in the process.
Bingo games really work well with my 8 year old. Try one for Math. Create a grid. Set up each square with addition, multiplication, subtraction, or division problems and cut up pieces of paper with the answers. Put the answers in a small tupperware container then draw an answer. You child will have to find the correct matching problem to satisfy the answer. Continue until you have a bingo row, or fill the card depending on your child’s attention span. The key here is play the game as often as you can. They think they are playing a game, when it’s really just repetition learning!
